SS045B - Ernst Barkmann in Winter - Knights Cross Recipient
Among the most recognised German Panzer commanders of the Second World War was Ernst Barkmann, a highly experienced tank commander whose career became closely associated with armoured warfare on the Eastern and Western Fronts. Serving primarily with the 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend", Barkmann gained a reputation as a skilled and determined commander during some of the most intense armoured engagements of the later war years.
Born in 1919, Barkmann joined the Waffen-SS before the outbreak of the Second World War and served as a tank crewman before rising through the ranks. During the Normandy Campaign of 1944, he commanded a Panther tank and became particularly well known for his actions during the fighting around Saint-Lô, where his unit engaged advancing Allied forces. His wartime service earned him the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, one of Germany's highest military decorations during the conflict.
This figure portrays Ernst Barkmann during winter conditions, capturing the appearance of a veteran Panzer commander in the field. The detailed uniform, realistic equipment, and commanding presence make this an excellent addition to armoured displays, command scenes, or collections focused on notable military personalities.
Historical figures such as Barkmann provide a connection between individual experience and the wider events of war. The Military Workshop offers collectors a carefully selected range of military personalities and historical figures from respected manufacturers, allowing enthusiasts to explore the commanders, vehicles, and soldiers behind some of history's most significant campaigns.
