SS057A - 8am Mortar Set & Crew Normandy

Mortars provided infantry units with one of their most effective forms of immediate battlefield support during the Second World War. Unlike heavier artillery, mortar teams could quickly establish firing positions close to the front line, delivering accurate indirect fire against enemy positions, defensive works, and concentrations of troops. Their effectiveness depended upon teamwork, communication, and the ability to operate under pressure.

This set, "8am Mortar Set & Crew Normandy," depicts a German mortar team during the intense fighting that followed the Allied landings in Normandy in June 1944. The campaign was characterised by difficult terrain, heavily defended villages, and constant engagements between advancing Allied forces and German defenders attempting to slow their progress inland.

The complete crew arrangement captures the coordinated nature of mortar operations, with each soldier performing a specific task in loading, aiming, and maintaining the weapon. The realistic poses and detailed equipment create a convincing battlefield scene that highlights the importance of infantry support weapons.

Ideal for Normandy displays, defensive positions, or larger infantry dioramas, this set provides collectors with a complete tactical element rather than a single figure. It demonstrates how small groups of soldiers worked together to influence the outcome of larger engagements.

The Military Workshop is proud to offer historically detailed military figures and sets that allow collectors to recreate the equipment, tactics, and human stories behind some of the most significant campaigns of the Second World War.
