SS116 - Soldier Carrying Mortar Legs SS Mortar Team

Mobility was one of the greatest advantages offered by infantry mortars during the Second World War. Unlike heavier artillery, mortar teams could rapidly relocate as the battle developed, allowing infantry commanders to maintain fire support even during fast-moving advances or tactical withdrawals. Achieving this flexibility required every member of the crew to carry part of the weapon and its ammunition.

This figure depicts an SS soldier transporting the mortar's bipod assembly, an essential component that provided both stability and precise elevation for accurate indirect fire. Although the mortar itself could be dismantled for movement, carrying its individual sections across difficult terrain remained physically demanding work, particularly when combined with personal weapons, ammunition, and field equipment.

The carefully sculpted figure captures the purposeful movement of a trained infantryman preparing to establish a new firing position. Fine attention to uniform details and equipment makes this an excellent companion piece for mortar crews or larger infantry formations engaged in active operations.

Collectors who appreciate the technical side of military history will enjoy building a complete mortar section using figures such as this. The Military Workshop is committed to offering historically authentic military collectibles that showcase not only famous weapons but also the soldiers whose teamwork brought them into action.
