VIK-24A – Viking Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
During the Viking Age, the shield wall was one of the principal defensive formations employed by armies throughout Northern Europe.
To overcome such defences, Viking warriors could employ the Svinfylking, a wedge-shaped attacking formation intended to concentrate the force of an assault against a particular point in the opposing line.
The name Svinfylking means "Swine Array" or "Boar Snout", reflecting the distinctive shape of the formation.
According to John Jenkins Designs, several of these formations could be assembled side by side, allowing warriors to launch coordinated attacks along an enemy battle line.
VIK-24A – Viking Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Viking infantryman charging forward with his spear, representing a member of the Svinfylking formation.
The figure adds another advancing warrior to the Viking collection and complements the other charging infantrymen in the series.
Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings range, this miniature is ideal for recreating the moment when an attacking force advances towards an opposing shield wall.
