VIK-26B – Viking Warrior | John Jenkins Designs

The Viking shield wall was a widely used battlefield formation throughout early medieval Northern Europe, particularly in England and Scandinavia.

Known in Old Norse as the Skjaldborg, the shield wall consisted of warriors standing shoulder to shoulder, holding their shields close together or overlapping them to form a protective barrier.

According to the historical background provided by John Jenkins Designs, this formation allowed each warrior to benefit from the protection of the shields carried by his companions.

The fighting often took place at extremely close range, with soldiers using swords, axes and spears to strike at exposed parts of their opponents.

VIK-26B – Viking Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Viking infantryman kneeling in a defensive position with his sword and shield.

The figure features a red shield decorated with a gold design, distinguishing this variation from the other warriors in the range.

Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings collection, this miniature is particularly suited to forming the front ranks of a Viking shield wall.
