VIK-28A – Viking Warrior | John Jenkins Designs

The Viking shield wall, known as the Skjaldborg, was a defensive battlefield formation commonly employed in Northern Europe during the early medieval period.

Warriors stood shoulder to shoulder, holding their shields together to protect themselves and the soldiers on either side.

The use of spears was particularly important within these formations, allowing soldiers to attack opponents while remaining behind the protective barrier of their shields.

According to the historical information provided by John Jenkins Designs, the closely packed nature of the shield wall also allowed warriors to support their companions by thrusting or striking towards enemies attempting to exploit gaps in the formation.

VIK-28A – Viking Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a standing Viking infantryman defending his position with a spear and shield.

The figure carries a distinctive shield featuring alternating black and red sections.

Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings collection, this miniature is ideal for creating a defensive formation of Viking infantry armed with a combination of spears, swords and axes.
