VIK-29B – Viking Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
The Viking shield wall was a common battlefield formation employed throughout Northern Europe during the early medieval period.
Known as the Skjaldborg, it was formed by warriors standing close together, protecting themselves and their companions with a continuous barrier of shields.
The fighting could become extremely intense as opposing formations met, with soldiers attempting to create openings in the enemy line.
John Jenkins Designs describes how warriors used a combination of axes, swords and spears to attack opponents, sometimes striking towards the exposed legs or faces of enemy soldiers.
VIK-29B – Viking Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a kneeling Viking infantryman armed with an axe and shield.
The warrior is represented with a bald head and carries a distinctive blue shield decorated with a yellow dragon design.
His kneeling position adds further variety to a larger defensive Viking formation, particularly when combined with standing warriors.
Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings collection, this figure complements the other shield wall releases.
