VIK-31B – Viking Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
During the Viking Age, shield walls were employed by opposing armies throughout Scandinavia and England.
These formations relied upon the close cooperation of infantrymen, whose shields created a protective barrier while swords, axes and spears were used against approaching enemies.
According to John Jenkins Designs, the effectiveness of a shield wall depended upon the soldiers maintaining their positions and supporting those around them.
Once an opposing force succeeded in breaking through the line, the defending formation could quickly become disorganised.
VIK-31B – Viking Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a standing Viking warrior thrusting forward with his spear while carrying a round shield.
The figure represents the close-quarter fighting associated with the Viking shield wall and complements the axe-armed and sword-armed warriors in the range.
This miniature is ideal for creating a varied infantry formation or adding another attacking warrior to a Viking battlefield scene.
Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings collection.
