VIK-32A – Viking Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
The Viking Age was marked by military campaigns and battles in which infantry formations frequently relied upon shield walls for protection.
These defensive formations brought warriors into close contact, with opposing soldiers using spears, swords and axes to force openings in the enemy line.
The Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 is one of the engagements discussed in the historical background provided by John Jenkins Designs.
During this battle, the Anglo-Saxon army confronted the Norwegian forces of King Harald Sigurdsson. Following fierce fighting, the Viking army was defeated.
VIK-32A – Viking Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a fallen Viking infantryman lying upon the battlefield.
The figure carries a distinctive yellow shield decorated with two black animal designs.
Unlike the standing and attacking warriors in the collection, this casualty figure adds another element to a Viking battlefield display.
It is particularly suitable for positioning among the defending shield wall warriors, illustrating the consequences of close-quarter combat.
Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings collection.
