VIK-35B – Viking Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
During the Viking Age, warfare frequently involved opposing infantry formations engaging in close-quarter combat.
One of the principal defensive arrangements was the shield wall, in which soldiers stood shoulder to shoulder with their shields held together.
John Jenkins Designs describes how these formations were intended to provide protection while allowing warriors to attack with swords, axes and spears.
The effectiveness of the shield wall depended heavily upon the ability of the soldiers to maintain their positions and prevent the opposing force from penetrating the line.
VIK-35B – Viking Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Viking infantryman armed with an axe and shield, advancing into battle.
This variation features a black shield decorated with a white World Serpent design.
The figure provides an alternative to VIK-35A and complements the other attacking and defending Viking warriors in the range.
Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings collection, this miniature is an excellent addition to a display featuring close-quarter Viking infantry combat.
