VIK-39N – Viking Archers | John Jenkins Designs

Although Viking warriors are often associated with swords, axes and shields, archery also played an important role in their military activities.

According to the historical information provided by John Jenkins Designs, the Vikings made considerable use of bows during warfare on both land and sea.

Archery was not restricted to ordinary warriors. Nobles and kings also took pride in their skill with the bow and their ability to shoot accurately.

Viking bows were mainly constructed from elm, although yew was also used.

John Jenkins Designs describes how the Leidang, the Scandinavian naval levy system, included bows among the equipment provided for ships. Records indicate that one bow and 24 arrows could be supplied for every two oarsmen.

VIK-39N – Viking Archers by John Jenkins Designs is a four-figure set depicting Viking archers preparing to fire.

The set includes two standing archers and two kneeling archers, each represented in a ready-to-shoot position.

These figures provide an excellent addition to Viking infantry formations and complement other archery figures in the collection.

Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings range.
