VIK-40N – Viking Archers | John Jenkins Designs
During the Viking Age, archers formed an important part of military forces operating throughout Northern Europe.
John Jenkins Designs explains that the bow was widely used by Viking warriors both on land and at sea.
Archery was practised by ordinary soldiers as well as members of the nobility, with accuracy and skill in shooting regarded as valuable abilities.
The bows used by Viking warriors were primarily constructed from elm, although yew was also employed.
In the Leidang naval levy system, bows and arrows were included among the equipment provided for ships. John Jenkins Designs notes that the allocation of one bow and 24 arrows for every two oarsmen suggests that a substantial proportion of a Viking force could have been equipped with bows.
VIK-40N – Viking Archers by John Jenkins Designs is a four-figure set depicting Viking warriors preparing to reload their bows.
The set includes two standing archers wearing mail and two kneeling archers wearing tabards, with all four figures reaching for arrows.
These complementary poses create a varied group of Viking archers and are particularly effective when displayed alongside VIK-39N.
Part of the Age of Arthur – The Vikings collection, this set is an excellent addition to a larger Viking military formation.
