RTA152 – “Backwoods Rifleman”
The struggle for the Alamo brought together men from many different backgrounds, including frontiersmen who had spent much of their lives hunting, travelling and surviving in the American wilderness. Their skills with the long rifle made them particularly valuable defenders from behind the walls of the old mission.
King & Country’s RTA152 “Backwoods Rifleman” captures one of these rugged frontier fighters, armed and ready to use the marksmanship upon which many backwoodsmen depended for both survival and defence.
During the siege, the defenders used the protection offered by the Alamo’s walls to fire upon Santa Anna’s troops. A skilled rifleman could make every shot count, but as the Mexican Army finally closed in during the early hours of 6 March 1836, the battle rapidly changed from long-range shooting to a desperate fight for survival.
