A highly detailed representation of a Persian Immortal warrior, featuring the distinctive spear and vibrant yellow and green shield associated with the elite forces of the Achaemenid Persian Empire. The Immortals were among the most prestigious troops of the ancient world, serving as the personal guard of the Persian King and forming the core of the empire’s professional infantry from approximately the 6th to 4th centuries BCE.
Maintained at a constant strength of 10,000 men, the Immortals gained their legendary name because any fallen or unavailable warrior was immediately replaced, ensuring the unit always appeared complete. They fought in many of the most significant campaigns of antiquity, including the invasions of Greece under Kings Darius I and Xerxes I.
