10074 – George Washington, 1780–83 | W.Britain
George Washington was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army in 1775 and would lead the American forces through the long and often difficult struggle for independence.
The early years of the Revolutionary War brought setbacks as well as important victories. Washington’s successes at Trenton and Princeton helped restore American morale, while the harsh winter at Valley Forge became one of the defining episodes in the development of the Continental Army.
By the period represented by this figure, 1780–83, French military and naval assistance had become increasingly important to the American cause. In 1781, Washington’s Continental Army and French troops under Rochambeau combined with Admiral de Grasse’s fleet during the Yorktown Campaign, resulting in the surrender of Lord Cornwallis’s army.
W.Britain’s 10074 George Washington depicts the American commander during the closing years of the Revolutionary War and makes an excellent personality figure for a Continental Army or American Revolution collection.
