32013 – Sitting Bull, Lakota Sioux Chief | W.Britain

Sitting Bull, known in Lakota as Tatanka Iyotanka, became one of the most celebrated leaders of the Hunkpapa Lakota and remains one of the best-known Native American figures of the nineteenth century.

From an early age he developed a reputation for courage and leadership, eventually becoming an important spiritual and political figure among his people. His life coincided with a period of increasing pressure on the traditional lands and way of life of the Plains tribes as settlement and military activity expanded westward.

Sitting Bull is forever associated with the Great Sioux War and the events surrounding the Battle of the Little Bighorn in June 1876. Although he did not personally lead warriors during the battle itself, he was an important leader within the large Lakota and Cheyenne encampment that opposed the U.S. Army.

W.Britain’s 32013 Sitting Bull, Lakota Sioux Chief brings another major historical personality to the Dirty Shirt Blue – The U.S. Army in the Old West collection and makes an impressive focal point within a wider Plains or American frontier display.
