32012 – U.S. Cavalryman, Mounted, 1880s | W.Britain
During the 1880s, mounted cavalry remained an essential part of the United States Army’s presence throughout the American West.
The vast distances separating frontier forts, settlements and patrol areas made the horse indispensable. Cavalry units were called upon for reconnaissance, escort duties, patrols and military operations across country where speed and mobility could be critical.
Life for a cavalryman in the West could involve long periods of routine duty broken by demanding campaigns through some of the most isolated and difficult terrain in North America.
W.Britain’s 32012 U.S. Cavalryman, Mounted, 1880s represents one of these mounted soldiers and forms an important part of the Dirty Shirt Blue – The U.S. Army in the Old West collection. He is a natural companion to the Apache figures and provides an excellent starting point for a cavalry patrol, pursuit or frontier campaign display.
