RAF044 – Air Vice-Marshal Sir Arthur “Bomber” Harris
Sir Arthur Harris, widely known as “Bomber Harris,” became Commander-in-Chief of RAF Bomber Command in February 1942 and remains one of the most debated British commanders of the Second World War.
Under Harris, Bomber Command dramatically expanded its night bombing offensive against Germany. His strategy placed heavy emphasis on area bombing of industrial cities, intended to damage Germany's war-making capacity and undermine civilian morale.
The effectiveness, necessity and human cost of this campaign remain subjects of considerable historical debate.
Available from The Military Workshop – RAF044 is a King & Country portrayal of Sir Arthur Harris, the controversial commander whose name became inseparably linked with RAF Bomber Command and the strategic air offensive against Germany.
