Few men were more important to Britain's survival during the Battle of Britain than Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding.

As Commander-in-Chief of RAF Fighter Command, Dowding oversaw the development of the integrated defensive system that brought together radar, observers, communications and fighter squadrons. This network allowed Britain's limited fighter resources to be directed efficiently against incoming Luftwaffe raids during the crucial summer and autumn of 1940.

His careful management of Fighter Command played a major role in Britain's victory.
