ROM005 – The Optio

Within the Roman century, the Optio served as an important junior officer and deputy to the centurion.

Traditionally positioned towards the rear of the formation, he helped maintain order and discipline while ensuring that commands were carried through the ranks. The role placed him between the ordinary legionaries and their senior centurion.
