The Browning Automatic Rifle, or BAR, provided American infantry units with mobile automatic firepower through both World Wars and into the early years of the Cold War.

Carrying the BAR was demanding – the weapon and its ammunition were considerably heavier than a standard infantry rifle – but its firepower made the BAR man an important member of his squad.
