Viet Cong units relied upon small-unit leaders to keep their fighters moving and coordinated in an environment where conventional communications and command structures could be difficult to maintain.

VN188 – Advancing V.C. Squad Leader depicts one such leader moving forward with his men.

Placed at the head of a group of Viet Cong fighters, he gives the surrounding figures a natural focal point and direction. The advancing pose is particularly effective in jungle terrain or during an ambush scene where the unit is beginning to move against its target.
