WS191 – Volkssturm Walking with Bicycle

Created in the closing months of 1944, the Volkssturm mobilised German males who were not already serving in the regular armed forces. Its members ranged widely in age and frequently had limited equipment and military training.

WS191 – Volkssturm Walking with Bicycle portrays one of these late-war defenders moving on foot with his bicycle.

Rather than depicting a heavily equipped front-line soldier, the figure reflects the increasingly improvised nature of German defence as Allied armies approached from east and west.
