CTSM-02A – Samnite Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
The Samnite Wars were among the most significant conflicts of the early Roman Republic, bringing Rome into prolonged confrontation with the powerful Samnite peoples of central and southern Italy.
The Samnites occupied a mountainous homeland where their experience in mobile warfare and ambush tactics made them formidable opponents.
According to the historical background provided by John Jenkins Designs, the Samnites fought in a loose phalanx formation that provided greater flexibility than the more rigid Greek-style formations.
These military traditions presented serious challenges to the Roman army, particularly when fighting across narrow mountain passes and uneven ground.
Samnite warriors were equipped with short spears and javelins, together with a variety of oval and round shields.
Their clothing was frequently brightly coloured, while many warriors wore distinctive bronze body armour, particularly the triple-disc breastplate associated with Italian military traditions.
CTSM-02A – Samnite Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Samnite infantryman wearing a red tunic.
The warrior holds his spear pointed forward at shoulder height while carrying a shield, preparing to engage an approaching opponent.
This figure complements the blue-tunic variation, CTSM-02B, and the four-figure CTSM-02N set.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection, this miniature is an excellent addition to a Samnite infantry formation.
