CTSM-03A – Samnite Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
The Samnites were among the most determined opponents of the Roman Republic during its early expansion across the Italian peninsula.
Their homeland lay within the mountainous regions of central and southern Italy, where their warriors developed military traditions suited to the challenges of fighting across rugged countryside.
The Samnite Wars, fought between 343 and 272 BC, forced Rome to reconsider the effectiveness of its traditional infantry formations.
John Jenkins Designs explains that the Samnites fought in a loose phalanx formation that offered considerable flexibility, particularly when operating across hills and narrow mountain approaches.
Their weapons included javelins and short spears, while their shields varied in shape and decoration.
Samnite soldiers were also known for their brightly coloured clothing and distinctive protective equipment, including bronze cuirasses of Italian design.
CTSM-03A – Samnite Warrior by John Jenkins Designs portrays a Samnite infantryman wearing a white and green tunic.
The warrior is depicted with his spear raised above his shoulder, ready to throw or thrust, while carrying his shield for protection.
His fighting stance makes him particularly suitable for displaying alongside other Samnite warriors in an advancing formation.
Designed to complement CTSM-03B and the four-figure CTSM-03N set, this miniature forms part of the John Jenkins Designs Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection.
