CTSM-04B – Samnite Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
The Samnites were among the most formidable opponents encountered by the Roman Republic during its expansion throughout the Italian peninsula.
Occupying the mountainous regions of central and southern Italy, these warriors developed fighting methods particularly suited to the difficult terrain of their homeland.
During the Samnite Wars, fought between 343 and 272 BC, Roman forces encountered determined resistance from Samnite infantry.
The Samnites were known for their use of a relatively flexible infantry formation, allowing their warriors to manoeuvre more effectively across uneven ground.
According to John Jenkins Designs' historical background, Samnite military equipment included short spears and javelins, together with a mixture of oval and round shields.
Many warriors also wore distinctive Italian-style body armour, particularly bronze breastplates featuring the characteristic triple-disc design.
CTSM-04B – Samnite Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Samnite infantryman wearing a blue tunic with distinctive red trim.
The warrior carries a shield and spear, representing the infantry forces that opposed the early Roman Republic
