CTSM-03N – Samnite Warriors | John Jenkins Designs
The Samnites were a powerful confederation of Italic peoples who inhabited the mountainous regions of central and southern Italy before the establishment of Roman dominance over the peninsula.
Their conflicts with Rome, known as the Samnite Wars, took place between 343 and 272 BC and played a major role in shaping the military organisation of the Roman Republic.
The Samnites were experienced in fighting across difficult terrain, using mobile formations and ambush tactics to challenge the Roman armies.
According to the historical notes provided by John Jenkins Designs, the Samnites fought in a loose phalanx formation that was more adaptable to mountainous country than the traditional Greek-style phalanx.
Samnite military clothing was particularly distinctive. Their tunics were often brightly coloured and decorated, with little evidence of uniformity among the warriors.
Their weapons included javelins and short spears, while their defensive equipment consisted of various round and oval shields and bronze body armour.
CTSM-03N – Samnite Warriors by John Jenkins Designs is a four-figure set featuring two warriors wearing yellow tunics and two dressed in white and green tunics.
Each figure carries a shield and is depicted with his spear raised above his shoulder, ready to throw or thrust towards an opponent.
The different tunic colours provide an attractive representation of the varied appearance of Samnite infantry.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection, this set is ideal for recreating a larger Samnite fighting force.
