FFL079 – Wounded French Foreign Legion Officer Firing His Pistol | Thomas Gunn
Founded on 10 March 1831 by King Louis Philippe, the French Foreign Legion became one of France's most recognisable military formations.
Originally established to allow foreign volunteers to serve within the French Army, the Legion was deployed extensively throughout North Africa, where its soldiers participated in numerous campaigns involving difficult terrain, isolated fortifications and determined local resistance.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Legionnaires became closely associated with colonial military operations in Algeria, Morocco and the surrounding regions.
FFL079 – Wounded French Foreign Legion Officer Firing His Pistol by Thomas Gunn captures a dramatic moment during a fierce engagement.
The wounded officer is depicted down on his hands and knees, continuing to fire his pistol towards an approaching enemy despite his injuries.
This striking pose adds a powerful storytelling element to a battlefield display, particularly when positioned alongside advancing Rif Warriors or other French Foreign Legion figures.
An excellent addition to a North African combat diorama, this miniature recreates the confusion and danger of close-quarter fighting during the colonial campaigns.
