Snipers became a persistent danger on the Gallipoli Peninsula, where the rugged landscape offered numerous opportunities for concealed marksmen.
GLT-12 – Ottoman Sniper represents one of these soldiers, operating very differently from infantry firing as part of a conventional line.
A sniper could exploit rocks, scrub and elevated ground to observe enemy movement and engage selected targets. The psychological effect could be considerable, particularly when troops had to expose themselves while moving between positions.
For a diorama, this figure is best placed away from the main Ottoman formation – concealed on higher terrain or overlooking an ANZAC trench.
