MAD-02 – Beja Warriors Charging #2

The charge is one of the defining visual themes of the John Jenkins Designs Beja range, and MAD-02 adds another variation to the attacking warriors.

In 1884, British troops under General Sir Gerald Graham fought several actions in the eastern Sudan against forces associated with Osman Digna. The campaign included the battles of El Teb and Tamai, where the ability of Mahdist warriors to close with disciplined infantry left a strong impression upon British participants.

The Beja figures are most convincing when they are not arranged too neatly. A battlefield charge naturally breaks spacing as individuals move at different speeds and negotiate the terrain.

Place MAD-02 among other charging poses, with casualty figures behind or between them, and the collection begins to tell the story of an attack developing under heavy fire.

The contrast with tightly organised British formations can make an especially dramatic diorama.

Available from The Military Workshop – a powerful John Jenkins Designs Beja Warrior release capturing one of the most memorable fighting forces of the Sudan campaigns.
