RA092 - SU-122 Self-Propelled Howitzer | King & Country

The SU-122 Self-Propelled Howitzer represents one of the Soviet Union's important armoured fighting vehicles developed during the Second World War.

Following the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, Soviet commanders recognised the effectiveness of German turretless assault guns, particularly the Sturmgeschütz III. This influenced the development of a Soviet vehicle capable of providing powerful mobile artillery support while making use of an existing tank chassis.

Built on the proven T-34 chassis, the SU-122 entered operational service in January 1943. Its large 122mm howitzer was particularly effective against fortified positions, bunkers and other defensive strongpoints.

This release forms part of the Heritage Classics collection and represents the Soviet armoured forces operating during the later stages of the war, including the winter campaigns of 1944–45.

The model can be displayed alongside the accompanying Red Army infantry releases RA093–RA098 to create a coordinated Soviet battlefield scene featuring armoured support and advancing troops.
