ROM157A – Roman Legionary with Pony (Red Shield) | Thomas Gunn

The Roman legions were among the most organised military forces of the ancient world, renowned for their discipline, engineering capabilities and ability to undertake lengthy campaigns across the territories of the Roman Empire.

While Roman soldiers are often remembered for their appearance on the battlefield, much of their military service involved marching, constructing fortified camps and transporting essential equipment.

The furca, a wooden carrying pole, was an important part of a legionary's marching equipment, allowing personal belongings and provisions to be carried during extended journeys.

Pack animals, including ponies and mules, provided valuable assistance by transporting heavier supplies and equipment.

ROM157A – Roman Legionary with Pony (Red Shield) by Thomas Gunn captures this important aspect of Roman military life.

The miniature depicts a Roman legionary carrying his equipment upon a furca while leading a fully laden pack pony.

This A version features a traditional red Roman shield, making it suitable for a wide range of Roman military displays.

An excellent addition to a Roman marching column, legionary encampment or military supply scene, this figure adds historical depth and variety to a Roman collection.
