VW022 – Gurkha Charging with Kukri #2 | Thomas Gunn

The Second Anglo-Afghan War of 1878–1880 saw British and Indian Army forces undertake a demanding campaign through some of the most difficult terrain on the north-western frontier of British India.

Among the troops serving during this conflict were the Gurkhas, soldiers recruited from Nepal whose distinctive military traditions had become firmly established within the British Indian Army.

Their most recognisable weapon was the kukri, a curved blade renowned for its versatility as both a military weapon and an everyday tool.

VW022 – Gurkha Charging with Kukri #2 by Thomas Gunn captures a Gurkha soldier surging forward with his kukri raised, his mouth open in a fierce battle cry.

Dressed in the green uniform of the 1879 Afghan campaign, the figure is sculpted in a dynamic charging pose, with his left foot leading as he advances.

This miniature is particularly effective when combined with VW021 and VW023, creating a dramatic group of Gurkha infantrymen charging into close combat.

An excellent addition to a historical display depicting the Second Anglo-Afghan War.
