AP-24A – Kardake Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
The Achaemenid Persian Empire maintained a diverse army incorporating many different kinds of infantry, cavalry and specialist soldiers.
During the later period of the empire, the Kardakes formed part of the infantry forces, although their precise military roles remain uncertain.
Ancient historians described Kardake soldiers in several ways, including as hoplites, slingers and peltasts, reflecting the different equipment and fighting traditions associated with these troops.
John Jenkins Designs explains that some Kardake light infantry carried wicker shields and weapons including javelins, swords and the sagaris battle axe.
The sagaris was a bronze, pick-like weapon associated with the Saka peoples and subsequently adopted by Persian warriors.
AP-24A – Kardake Light Infantry by John Jenkins Designs portrays a Persian soldier wearing a blue tunic with green sleeves.
The warrior carries a distinctive red crescent-shaped shield and advances with his sagaris battle axe raised, preparing to deliver a blow.
This individual figure complements the three-figure AP-24AN set and other Kardake infantry from the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection.
