AP-24BN – Kardake Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
The armies of the Achaemenid Persian Empire employed a wide range of infantrymen, cavalry and specialist troops drawn from the many regions under Persian rule.
Among the infantry formations of the later empire were the Kardakes, whose exact origins and military roles have been the subject of considerable historical debate.
Ancient writers variously described them as hoplites, slingers and peltasts, suggesting that the term may have encompassed more than one type of soldier.
Kardake light infantry are associated with a range of weapons, including javelins, swords and the sagaris battle axe.
The sagaris was a bronze, pick-like weapon associated with the Saka peoples and later adopted by Persian soldiers.
AP-24BN – Kardake Light Infantry by John Jenkins Designs depicts three Persian warriors advancing with their sagaris battle axes raised.
The soldiers wear brown tunics with tan sleeves and carry distinctive green crescent-shaped shields.
Their forward-moving fighting stances capture the appearance of infantrymen advancing into close-quarter combat.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Achaemenid Persian Army collection, this three-figure set is suitable for forming a larger contingent of Kardake light infantry.
