MAC-36B – Macedonian Hypaspist | John Jenkins Designs

During the campaigns of Alexander the Great, the Macedonian army relied heavily upon the close cooperation of its infantry and cavalry.

The Macedonian phalanx, armed with exceptionally long sarissa pikes, formed a formidable defensive formation capable of holding enemy infantry at a distance.

Despite its effectiveness from the front, the phalanx required protection against attacks directed towards its vulnerable sides.

The Hypaspists performed this important role, operating alongside the phalangites and providing a more flexible infantry force capable of responding to changing battlefield conditions.

Equipped with hoplite-style shields and spears, these elite soldiers played an essential part in the battlefield system developed under Philip II and refined by Alexander.

MAC-36B – Macedonian Hypaspist by John Jenkins Designs portrays one of these distinguished Macedonian infantrymen.

This version features a distinctive bronze shield with a yellow star against purple decoration, providing a colourful alternative to the other shield patterns available in the range.

The figure complements MAC-36A and the other Hypaspists within the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection.

An excellent addition to a display recreating the infantry formations of Alexander's Macedonian army.
