TMGC6001 – German Army Cavalry Captain, 1940–1941 | Team Miniatures
During the opening years of the Second World War, cavalry still played an important role within the German Army. While Germany’s campaigns are often associated with tanks, armoured vehicles and mechanised formations, horses continued to be widely used for reconnaissance, command, communications and movement across terrain where vehicles could not easily operate.
TMGC6001 depicts a German Army Cavalry Captain from 1940–1941, mounted on a rearing horse and holding a pair of binoculars. Team Miniatures has captured the officer in a dramatic command pose, appearing to survey the battlefield while his horse rises beneath him. The figure reflects the important role mounted officers played in directing cavalry units and maintaining awareness of enemy positions during fast-moving operations.
German cavalry formations were active during the early campaigns of the war, including Poland in 1939, Western Europe in 1940 and the opening stages of Operation Barbarossa in 1941. Mounted troops were particularly useful for reconnaissance and screening duties, combining the mobility of traditional cavalry with the organisation and weaponry of a modern army.
With its striking pose and strong sense of movement, TMGC6001 makes an impressive centrepiece for an early-war German cavalry display and pairs particularly well with the mounted privates TMGC6002A and TMGC6002B.
